"I connected with The Rental Girl through a posting on Craigslist. Initially I was wary to use a broker as I normally prefer working directly with a landlord. In this case, I was pleasantly surprised. Their site is clear and concise. My part of LA is covered by Jen Rental Girl, so I can't speak for the other districts. Even though she was 10 minutes late to the first meeting, she took the extra time to walk through the property twice and answer my many questions. The day I met her to submit my deposit (in cashier's check, as is standard), we walked the property again and she even reminded me that if I didn't love it completely, it would be best to not rent it. (This was due to the neighbors owning chickens.) Her honesty was refreshing. The landlord has been as helpful and nice as Jen had said she would be. All in all, a very positive experience. "I'm pretty new to the Los Angeles area, and my experience working with The Rental Girl was honestly the first time I'd ever dealt with a realtor before (first apartment, too). That said, I have no frame of reference with which to compare Rental Girl to other realtors. Full disclosure.

That said, I actually found the whole experience very easy. I live in the Pasadena area, so I worked with Jen in the application and lease signing process. Once again, I'm a newbie to this whole thing, but as far as I could tell, there weren't any "catches" I was aware of. Jen was completely cooperative and pleasant through the entire process. And Jen wasn't even the one who "sold me" on the apartment. Her assistant talked me into it, so kudos to her!

The general location isn't as ideal as I'd hoped (a little further east in LA than I originally wanted), but when all is said and done, I got an incredible deal on a very nice one-bedroom with a good landlord.
